Originally published in the Breton activist newspaper Champ de ronces, “Manger des ronces” (Eating Brambles) is a text by the artist Margot Mourrier Sanyas that discusses relationships with state violence by addressing the themes of the body, queer love, and contemporary activism. First performed as a solo reading by Margot at the Nord Est general assembly in support of the anti-racist movement and Soulèvements de la terre, Manger des ronces has now been reimagined as a multimedia live performance co-directed with musician Nicolas Tilly and featuring video and scenography by Xavier Prevot.

The media used during the performance were filmed at night, exploring the appearance of bodies, objects, and gestures amid overgrown vegetation and brambles illuminated by ultraviolet light.

Both baroque plastic objects and forms borrowed from cinéma du réel, the images in Manger des ronces are assembled into a live composition in a real-time video mix by Xavier Prevot. The resulting evolving composition is transcribed by video projection onto several surfaces in the performance space. A dramaturgical element in itself, the composition serves as a luminous scenography through which the performance evolves, embodied by the voice of Margot Mourrier Sanyas and the live music of Nicolas Tilly.
