“A guardian. A person employed to look after persons, animals or a place.”

What is fragile. What is sacred. What is hidden needs a guardian. An invisible being who watches without rest.

The guardian is a figure who stands between two worlds: the one he protects and the one he excludes. In this position, he carries a social, political and philosophical burden.

A guardian acts in secret. His watchfulness in the shadows places him on the frontiers of the visible and the invisible, of protection and authority. He is a being in shades of gray, forgotten as soon as he is seen. By virtue of his waiting position, he runs counter to our temporality, worrying and reassuring us at the same time.

And if the world needs guardians, the guardian himself keeps watch in solitude.

In a world where the gaze that watches over us is ever more disturbing, this work raises the question of who are our guardians, as we strive every day to conquer our autonomy.
